So, as many of you know, I applied to teach English (to be a “conversational English teaching assistant”) over in France for the next school year. I requested placement in the Marseille/Aix-en-Province region (southeastern coast of France) because I know of some missionary activity in Marseille, which I’d love to help out with in my free time if things work out that way.
GOOD NEWS as of this week: I found out that I did get placed in the Aix-Marseille Académie, I did get placed with grade schoolers (as I requested), I did get accepted to the nine-month (rather than the seven-month) program, so I will have charge of my own classroom. Scary? Yes -- but exciting! I still might be placed more than an hour away from Marseille, which, ya'know, I'd suffer through... somehow. ;o) I should find out my exact placement later this month.

I am soooo excited! I'm already trying to figure out the best time of year to come visit you. This summer, let's watch nothing but French movies, read nothing but French books, and eat nothing but baguettes and expensive French cheese! Anyone care to join me in a rousing chorus of "La Marseillaise"? Felicitations, Kate!

You ought to think about going early; some time in early September, maybe. It will take some time to get your ears on. I can't imagine how hard it would be to walk into class after just a short time in France and have all these little French kids jabbering French at you and not being able to follow.

I think I can swing a cheap ticket to somewhere near France sometime. Maybe we can split the difference (distance-wise of course) and have a nice rendesvous for a couple of days.

Wow -- thanks for rallying round, my friends and family! I loved reading everything you all wrote, and I’m’a try to reply to you all, in brief:
I would love to have visitors, I want this summer to be packed with French-type fun, I agree that I oughta go over early, I... um... should probably learn “La Marseillaise”, I plan to keep you all posted through this blog (which is its central purpose, actually), I’m all about traveling and meeting up wherever people can et je crois que j’écriverai des blogs en français peut-être un fois par mois (et aussi des postes de voix, j’espère) pour avoir un témoignage à mon progrès.
