Alas, poor squirrel...
Well, it’s been a full week, so I thought I might as well blog again. :o)
So we had a power outage yesterday morning for something like an hour-and-a-half (we’re guessing some local squirrel snuffed it). Anne came up to my room around 9:00 to make sure that I wasn’t counting on an electric alarm clock, and thankfully, I wasn’t. (Actually, mine is a battery-powered wind-up, for just such an occasion. Thanks anyway, Anne!)
Anyway, stirring made me realize how hot I was. No, I didn’t get up and shave my head, but I did reach over and switch on my window air conditioner (my room is in the attic, far removed from central air) -- and, of course, nothing happened. I turned it off. Oh, yeah...
Stirring also made me realize that whatever my plans had been, I was now obliged to get up and head towards the bathroom. On my way downstairs, I yanked the cord for the light, which, of course, did not come on. I clicked it back off again. Heh... oops.
I proceeded to the bathroom and began to ponder what I might have for breakfast. Maybe I’ll reheat the spinach fandango -- nope, no microwave. (I hope I didn’t shock any of you who may once have imagined me to be “healthy”.) Well, I’ll have the tuna and rice cold, and ooh! I can watch another episode of the Gilmore Girls over breakf-- NO! No TV or DVD player. Yikes!
Yeah, so I vote we keep this eckeltricity stuff around, ’cause I guess I’m dependant on it (and a little empty-headed when I first wake up!).
The nth day of the rest of my life
Shortly after graduation it dawned on me that I am no longer a student. Duh, right? No, seriously: I have been a student since I was five and now possibly never will be again (except in the whole student of life sense) -- which makes today, let’s see, the 1st, 2nd, ... 12th day of the rest of my life! Coolness. No assignments, no tests, no required reading... ahh.
The funny part is that I can actually forget such monumental news as the fact that I'm not still a student. While visiting Kirk of the Hills on Sunday I checked the little "Student" box before I could even stop myself -- HA! Well, I was amused, anyway.
Retrospective "Heads!"
Yeah, so just FYI: No blog posts from me May 8th - 15th and surrounding because of the RUF 05 SC PC FL. :o)
Photos to follow, methinks.
presque finis/Almost Done
This’ll just be a quickie. I’m just terribly excited and thankful that my last final (maybe ever!) was changed from a "1-3:00 final" to a "due at 3:00 final" -- and it’s not nearly as awful as it might have been. Then it will all be over!! I’ll never have to come back to school if I don’t want to. *le sigh*
Oh, and for those of you who don't know, Anne & I will be having a par-tay tonight at Zion from 6-9. Almost... just a little further...
Newsy News
So, as many of you know, I applied to teach English (to be a “conversational English teaching assistant”) over in France for the next school year. I requested placement in the Marseille/Aix-en-Province region (southeastern coast of France) because I know of some missionary activity in Marseille, which I’d love to help out with in my free time if things work out that way.
GOOD NEWS as of this week: I found out that I did get placed in the Aix-Marseille Académie, I did get placed with grade schoolers (as I requested), I did get accepted to the nine-month (rather than the seven-month) program, so I will have charge of my own classroom. Scary? Yes -- but exciting! I still might be placed more than an hour away from Marseille, which, ya'know, I'd suffer through... somehow. ;o) I should find out my exact placement later this month.
Visions of Sugar-Plums
You know how when you’ve been riding in a boat or on roller coasters all day and then you lie down at night and close your eyes, you still feel the motion? Or how when you get just a little too addicted to Tetris your brain just continues the puzzle in your mind when you’re not even playing, kind of automatically? (Not that I’ve ever, um, played Tetris to such an extent that that would happen...) Well, all day on Saturday I had visions of weeds being pulled up -- leaves, roots, worms and all -- because, you guessed it, I had the happy providence to do that very task that morning for four whole hours. I don’t think I’ve ever before made a project out of weeding, but I did find it immensely satisfying, after all! It’s amazing to me how work can be both toilsome and fulfilling.
The visions have since gone away... and now my legs are sore.
