Scene: Dad arrives home Sunday evening to find the house emptier than usual.Dad: Did Anne go home already?
Me: Yeah. She left pretty early tonight.
Dad: And Bess went home, too?
Me: Yup. She took off a little while ago.
(pause)
Dad: So, you all only stay over here if we have a working TV, is that it?
Me: I’m only still here for the washing machine.

Oh, oh, oh! Does that mean they will all LEAVE, if I break the TV and lose the washing machine?
Why, why, why did I have to find this out the week after we bought a new TV?? Ack!
